Gwenith E. Riat

Gwenith Elaine Riat, age 73, formerly of Nemah, passed away at Frontier Care Facility in Longview on February 16, 2012 of long term health-related problems.

Gwenith Elaine Nashif was born to George and Grenith Nashif in Raymond on September 2, 1938. She grew up in Nemah and graduated from Naselle High School in 1957, where she was a cheerleader and song queen. After graduation she attended St. Joseph School of Nursing in Tacoma and married Gerald Riat in 1958 while he was in the Navy. In 1959 she and her husband moved to California until 1973, when they moved the family back to Nemah.

Gwen will be remembered as a giving person, who loved her family immensely.

She loved to cook and baked many pies for the annual Nemah hunters’ feed. She and her husband owned and operated the G&G Upholstery antique store in Astoria.

In later years, she enjoyed spending time with family and grandchildren and going on outings when health permitted.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry in 1993 and her sister Georgina in 2005. Gwen was survived by her five children, Anthony Riat, David Riat, Kenneth Riat, Steven Riat, Diana Hostetter, 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., today (Thursday) at Stoller’s Mortuary, 315 5th St., Raymond, followed by internment at Fern Hill Cemetery in Menlo.

Arrangements are in care of Stoller’s Mortuary in Raymond.
