Paul B. Glessner

Paul B. Glessner passed away February 6, 2012 at the Spokane Veterans Home in Spokane.

He was born to Edward and Plush Glessner June 5, 1919 at the family home southeast of Mansfield. He graduated from Mansfield High School in 1935. Paul married Ellen Louise McCardell May 3, 1941.

Paul was inducted into the army in 1944 and served in the South Pacific as a machine gunner during World War II. After being discharged from the army in 1946, Paul worked for a time in the Naval Yard in Bremerton and then returned to Mansfield to take over his parents' wheat ranch. Paul worked at the Waterville ASCS office from 1954 to 1974 and for the ASCS office in Cathlamet from 1974 until his retirement in 1979. After retirement Paul did volunteer work for the Soil Conservation Service and was a member of the Civil Service board for four years. Paul and Ellen moved back to Waterville in 1994. In 2002, Paul moved to Spokane where he resided the remaining years of his life

Paul loved to participate in the many activities at Canterbury Court in Spokane where he lived for 10 years, going to the casinos, calling and playing bingo, and singing tunes he remembered from his youth. He was known for his homemade peanut brittle and his willingness to help all as he saw a need.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents, eight siblings, wife Ellen, daughter Mary and three infant granddaughters. He is survived by son Linn (Pinkie) and Louise Glessner, son Jim Glessner and Tom Carpenter, Daughter Kathy and Larry Kendrick, and special daughter Lori Doud and her daughter Katy, nine grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at Mansfield United Protestant Church on Friday, February 17, at 2 p.m. with viewing one hour before the service. Donations may be made in Paul’s name to Mansfield Dollars for Scholars or Mansfield Museum.
