Economic system is inherently flawed

To The Eagle:

It seems past time to admit that our economic system does not work. Sufficient assets can carry some of us over cyclic economic depressions but for many of us, these cycles have tragic consequences. We have lost jobs while needing to support and educate families and many have fallen into undeserved poverty.

The wealthy don't get their wealth out of thin air. They get it from us. It seems mindless to continue to extract profit from working people who have no opportunity to replenish their resources. It reminds us of the analogy of the unsupervised child in a candy shop who wants it all until the bellyache comes.

Our current system has, in recent years, had to absorb previously unemployed ethnic minorities, women and immigrants as well as more young job-seekers. Meantime, many of our jobs are being "outsourced" while even more machines and devices are being developed to reduce labor costs, i.e. jobs. Can we expect our system to survive such trials forever?

Please don't waste energy calling us communists, socialists, liberals, etc. That won't make the system work. Nor will asserting that it works better than any other system. It could be that it cannot be made to work as constructed. We can't even agree on what broke it much less how to fix it. A starting point to devise a new system might be to challenge the myth that all we need to do is work hard and we can be successful and wealthy. It follows then, that the wealthy have worked harder and earned their wealth. This is one of several frauds which have been imposed on the American people. Most of us do work hard, when we have a job. We are a free country but we unfortunately permit this failed system to continue to tear up our lives over generations.
