Commissioners of Port District No. 2 reviewed their contract for legal services and discussed other business when they met for their monthly meeting on Tuesday.
Attorney Tim Hanigan requested the commission consider updating their contract for legal services. Neither his office nor port staff can find a copy of the original contract, which goes back to the port's formation in the 1960s.
Commissioner Kayrene Gilbertsen suggested the commission could issue a request for proposals and see if other attorneys are interested in working with the port, but O'Connor and Scott said they thought it would be best to continue using the Hanigan firm because of its long experience.
Hanigan said the basic contract would keep them on retainer and have them at monthly meetings. If the commission wanted to change that, he was open to discussion, he said.
In other business, commissioners said they would formulate a plan for collecting public input on possible economic and other activities. The district is going to update its comprehensive plan, and commissioners want public input on possible activities.
Commissioners agreed to waive monetary compensation allowed by state statute, but O'Connor suggested they be allowed five days of free camping at Skamokawa Vista Park as compensation.
Scott said she had talked with one of the two remaining members of the Skamokawa Park and Recreation District Commission about that board holding a meeting to disband and deed the port office property to the port district.
