The Wahkiakum Mules won and lost games last week at the Dayton Holiday Invitational Tournament.
The Mules opened Thursday with a 63-35 win over LaCrosse-Washtucna. Brieanna Olsen poured in 26 points, and sister Baylee added 16. Also scoring for the Mules were Brianna Helms with eight, Maya Stanley and Sam Boyce with five each, Haylee Budd two and Marissa Washington had nine rebounds; Boyce made six steals; Helms had six assists and Ashley Silva and Baylee Olsen each blocked shots.
On Friday, the Mules lost 72-39 to Kiona-Benton. K-B jumped to a 16-6 first quarter lead and were up 38-13 at halftime.
"Despite the score, the girls played really well," said Mule Coach Tiffany Niemeyer. "We only had 11 turnovers and we outscored them in the fourth quarter. The Mules did a lot of good things against a good 1A team that is ranked fifth in state.
Brieanna Olsen led the Mule scoring with 13 points; Helms had nine, Stanley seven, and Budd and Boyce five each.
The Mules returned to Central League action Tuesday and lost a 53-34 game at Napavine.
The Tigers led 17-11 after one quarter and outscored the Mules 12-5 in the second quarter to take control.
Washington led the Mule scoring with seven Points. Helms had six; Baylee Olsen and Stanley each had five, Budd and Boyce each had four, and Brieanna Olsen had three. Helms grabbed nine rebounds.
The Mules entertain the Morton-White Pass Timberwolves tonight (Thursday). They go to Pe Ell on January 10 and to Toutle on January 13. They entertain Winlock on January 18.
