Once again the Christmas Concert was a huge success and was enjoyed by the entire community. With featured selections of Christmas music and songs, students from all grades did an outstanding job as usual. Following the concert, Santa was on hand with candy canes and apples, a real treat. Many thanks for the efforts of all the performers, teachers, helpers, and to the attendees for making this another successful concert.

Other news from the Westend:

Thanks to the county commissioners, the roof has been repaired for the Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park and some major repairs are being made to at least two of the damaged outside walls of the building. It turned out to be a much bigger job than was bid, and the advisory board certainly appreciates getting it fixed, before the weather did any more damage to the interior of the building.

The Johnson Park Advisory Board have met and elected new officers. Steve Ramsay is president, Randy Collver is vice president, Cindy Lahti is secretary, Penny Gregory is treasurer and other members include Timo Virkkala, Kathy Rostad, and Trudy Fredrickson was nominated to fill a vacancy to be appointed by the county commissioners. Lilah Lincoln is considered by the board to be an honorary, non voting member, for all her efforts.

The Grays River Valley Library and Community Computer Center will be closed on Saturday and will reopen with regular hours on January 2. The volunteers wish everyone a Merry Christmas. Regular hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Remember there are lots of other things going on at the Grays River Valley Center almost every day. Monday: card group and aerobics; Tuesday: yoga; Thursday: yoga, TOPS and art group. The gym is available for a friendly game if you are interested. The exercise room is well equipped for your pleasure and also houses a full size pool table. The sewing room is in process of becoming a usable space for your sewing needs. If you need more information on renting a space for your meetings or family gatherings, please contact Judy Durrah, our events coordinator at 465-2331. You can also view the ongoing events at the center by checking the calendars which are posted at the north entrance and at the west entrance of the buildings.

The Wednesday Senior Lunch Bunch that meets at Rosburg Hall will be enjoying hot turkey sandwiches, whipped spuds and gravy, veggies and dessert on the 28th. Many of us will be using up the Christmas dinner leftovers at home, as well.

CAP sponsored meals are served at the same location on Tuesdays and Thursdays also. The menus for this week are: Thursday, the 22nd-spaghetti, Sicilian veggies, sliced oranges, garlic bread and raspberry meringue bar; Tuesday, the 27th-beef barley soup, half a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato and carrot cake; Thursday, the 29th-chicken chili, carrot and apple salad, cornbread and orange delight.
