Dearest Project helps to ease grief

To The Eagle:

On October 15, 2010, my father unexpectedly passed away. With his passing came great upheaval and change in every aspect of my life including having to leave our home of 22 years. In the midst of shock and despair, I discovered the isolation and loneliness brought on by grief of such a significant loss in my life. I put all of my belongings into a storage unit and set off on a journey of healing.

Throughout my travels through the UK, Europe, Canada, LA and New York, I met many healers and many others who were kind enough to open their homes and hearts to share their stories of love, relationships, and grief. It was hearing these stories that helped me come up with the idea of The Dearest Project: A place for bereaved people to share letters they have written to loved ones who have passed. It is a web site that I launched in November, and a show that I am putting together that consists of the letters people have submitted and musicians from around the world who have donated their songs about grief. More letters are slowly trickling in as I spread the postings via facebook and twitter.

The holiday season is always more difficult with grief. Though last year was my first Thanksgiving and Christmas without my dad, this year doesn’t feel any easier. People say grief hurts less over time, but no matter what, I know there will always be a hole in my heart missing my dad and yearning to call him to catch him up on all that’s happening in my life. I know that I am not the only one who feels this way, and I know that from the stories I have heard and the letters that I have read on The Dearest Project. It is a place for healing and understanding for all of us bereaved, and a place for those who haven’t experienced great loss, but know someone who has, to gain a bit more insight into what it is like. More so, The Dearest Project is a place for sharing love and honoring those who touched our lives in unforgettable ways.
