Port 1 finishing new dock, planning for springers

A project to replace a dock at Wahkiakum Port District No. 1’s Elochoman Marina is almost completed, port commissioners heard at their December 8 meeting.

The new F-Dock section is in place, Assistant Port Manager Abe York told port commissioners, and port staff are starting to install braces on the dock’s fingers in preparation to move boats to the new dock.

York said he had purchased the pipe and hardware necessary to install the water line for the dock. The line will have to be drained during the winter, but York said he would charge the line to test it after installation.

Port Commissioner Larry Bonds commented that Ferguson, the company that manufactured and installed the dock, had completed their portion of the project on time. York said he appreciated the good communication the company had demonstrated with port staff.

Port Commissioner Brett Deaton noted the first report on the 2012 spring chinook salmon (“springer”) season will come out shortly. York added that many people have called to reserve spots for the busy springer season.
