The Wahkiakum Mules opened up their 2011-2012 basketball season Saturday night with a 33-point win over their KM Mountain rivals, the Naselle Comets.
The Mules dominated the entire game both offensively and defensively enroute to a 66-33 win over the visiting Comets.
Leading the way for the Mules were seniors John Chambers and Wyatt Parker, with 20 and 17 points respectively. Sophomore Chris Bilgic added eight points and four steals to lead an aggressive half court trapping defense that had the Comets turning the ball over and tossing up errant shots all night. Lars Blix tossed in six more points while Peter Weiler and Travis Wegdahl each contributed five. Parker also collected a team-high six rebounds, with Wegdahl and Yannik Kreutter adding five each, and Weiler and Brett Chaput four apiece.
The Comets were led by Chandler Chapman’s 10 points and Rob Baker, Dustin Eaton, and Nick Strange each chipped in with six apiece. The Comets hit only 45 percent from the free throw line and just 30 percent of their offerings from the field, including two for 13 from beyond the arc.

The Mules rallied from a three-point halftime deficit to defeat the host Kalama Chinooks 61-55 on Tuesday.
The Mules came out firing in the third quarter, outscoring Kalama by nine to take a decisive six point lead into the final frame and holding on in the fourth to come out with a victory.
Parker hit a perfect 6/6 from the line on his way to a game-high 16 points. Outside the arc, Blix provided the boost nailing four of five attempts and finishing with 14 points. Chaput and Chambers both cracked the double-digit mark, scoring 12 and 10 respectively, while Bilgic dished out a team-high six assists.
