Longview resident, Carl E. Wingate, 72, passed away December 3, 2011 at his home. He was born September 12, 1939 in Baltimore, Md. to Carl, Sr. and Agnes (McDonnell) Wingate. He graduated from St. Charles Catholic High School in Balitimore; received his Bachelor’s degree from St. Mary’s University and his Master’s degree from Notre Dame. On May 11, 1976 he married Mary Buennagel in Everett; she survives him at home.
He was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church and was devout in his faith and teaching RCIA for many years. He volunteered at Juvenile Detention and Cowlitz County Jail. Carl was a teacher at Kelso High School for 31 years, teaching language; he retired in 2006. He had a wonderful energy, a great sense of humor and was curious about everything, always learning and teaching. Carl was a fabulous creative artist. Carl was well loved by his students, and all who knew him. He will be missed.
In addition to his wife Mary, he is survived by a sister Mary E. McCarron of Baltimore, Md.; his mother and father-in-law Charlie and Kay Buennagel of Puget Island; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol Zuvela, Chuck, John, Mark, Karl, Jan, Louie and Tom Buennagel; numerous nieces and nephews and his large extended family and many friends.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at St. Rose Catholic Church. Visitation will be held at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park, Thursday from 12-5 p.m. and Friday from 10 am – 8 p.m., the family will be present to welcome visitors from 6-8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Carl Wingate’s name to St. Vincent DePaul, 1222 Baltimore St., Longview, WA 98632 or Community Hospice, PO Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632. Private burial will take place at Longview Memorial Park.
