Author to sign books at Advent Soup Supper
Naselle Evangelical Lutheran Church will host its annual Advent Soup Supper on December 4, from 4 until 6 p.m. The event, featuring homemade soups and breads, follows the FinnAm Christmas Tour of Homes. Freewill donations for the supper are used to maintain the Deep River Pioneer Church sanctuary.
The soup supper will feature a book signing by local author John Indermark, who will be signing copies of his two latest books: The Greatest of These and Way Words. The Greatest of These explores Biblical perspectives on love. Way Words is a collection of daily readings for use during the season of Lent. Copies will be available for sale at $12 and $10 respectively, with $1 for each book sale going toward the Deep River Pioneer Church.

best decorated yard
Local residents in the 98612 zip code who are decorating their yards for Christmas can enter the Wahkiakum County Historical Society's Christmas Yard Decoration Contest.
The best entry, based on originality and content will be awarded $100. There is a $10 fee to enter the contest and all proceeds go to the historical society and museum. Entries must be received by noon, December 19 and judging will be between dark and 10 p.m. on that date. The winner will be announced in The Eagle on December 22 along with the addresses of all the contestants.

Chinook food bank closing December 31
As of December 31, after more than 25 years, the Chinook Indian Nation will no longer be able to keep the Chinook Food Bank open.
The nation's decision is based on a lack of funds to pay the food bank rent as well as no longer being able to supply volunteers to staff the food bank.
The nation members are in the process of trying to find another group to run the food bank, but are unsure of other interest at this time.
Music continues
at Redmen Hall
The musical line up continues this week at Redmen Hall with Harmony Hearts, whose members include Pam Emery, Gwen Gorley, Christine Payne-Towler and Kathleen Morgain, who will sing on Saturday.
On Sunday, Rick Nelson will perform. Both performances begin at 1 p.m. Hidden River, with members Randy Williams, Michael Dowers and Christine Payne-Towler will play December 11.Visitors can listen to the music and browse the selection of gifts made by local artisans.
Redmen Hall is located on SR4 in Skamokawa and is open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
Workshop covers
financial basics
Wahkiakum Community Network and WSU Extension will host a free workshop, led by WSU Extension director Carrie Backman.
The workshop will be held on December 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the River Street Meeting Room and will cover creating budgets, saving for college, banking advice and credit history.

FinnAm Christmas Festival this Sunday
The Annual Finnish-American Folk Festival Christmas Concert, Tour of Homes, and Soup Supper will be held this Sunday.
The concert will begin at 1 p.m. at the Historic Pioneer Deep River Lutheran Church. This program will feature Wilho Saari with extended family playing the kantele, the Naselle Chime Choir with soloist Lisa Bighill, the Sou-West-Aires Quartet, the Finnish-American Choir and group singing of traditional Christmas carols.
Homes featured on the self-tour, from 2-5 p.m., include the home of George and Donna Klint, built in 1885 by Finnish immigrants, the John Rull family and the new Hiline Home built by the Klints' youngest daughter Diane and her husband Rich.
In Naselle, the tour features the recently purchased home of the Travis Pakenen family, built in 1918 by Casper Korpela, for Otto and Milga Wirkkala.
Tickets with maps are $5 each, and are available at Finn Ware in Astoria, Radio Shack in Long Beach, Hair Villa in Naselle, at the concert or any of the homes.
The Naselle Lutheran Church will host a Soup Supper from 4-6 p.m. Donations will go to the host Priscilla Circle.
