Former area resident, Ragnar “Hokey” Hokanson, 89, passed away November 28, 2011 at his home in Oregon City, Ore., where he has resided since 1972. He was born on Puget Island, October 29, 1922 to Ture and Edith (Hellstrom) Hokanson. He graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1940 and the University of Washington in 1960. He married Marilyn Wilson in 1943; she preceded him in death on May 23, 2009. On May 16, 2011 he married Sharon Benedick; she survives him at home.
Ragnar served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a longtime member of the Assembly of God Church. He owned and operated Hokanson Fleetways, Inc, and Pacific Yacht Charters, along with several other businesses prior to that.
In addition to his wife, Sharon, he is survived by a son, Larry Hokanson of San Antonio, Texas; his daughters, Janice Benson and Judy Placencia, both of Oregon City, Ore .; 16 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Harold Hokanson.
A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, December 4 at the Neighborhood Church in Tualatin, Ore.. A graveside committal will be held at Greenwood Cemetery in Cathlamet, on Saturday, December 3 at 3:30 p.m.
