Patrick E. Madden

Longview resident Patrick Eugene Madden, 66, passed away November 27, 2011. He was born March 1, 1945 in Hawthorne, Calif. to Howard and Mary Ann (Pilon) Madden. He moved with his family to Skamokawa in December 1950 and attended Skamokawa Grade School and in 1964 he graduated from Wahkiakum High School where, as a proud “Mule” he played on the state championship basketball and football teams. He married Judy Nutter of Cathlamet on July 25, 1966; she survives him at home.

Pat served as an MP in the Army during Vietnam. Pat was a dedicated employee of Longview Fibre for 42 years, retiring in 2006. He actively coached soccer, baseball and softball for many years. Several of his softball players went on to successful college careers. Pat was an avid outdoorsman and spent many years hunting with his lifelong friends, Ken Brockway and Gary Emery. He was preceded in death by his only brother Howard.

He leaves sons, Erik (Rachelle) of Elk Grove, Calif., Peter and Caesey and a daughter, Kathleen, all of Longview. Being the grandfather of Gillian and Burke was his greatest delight. He is also survived by sisters Cathy (Bill) Harper of Camas, Betty (Larry) Johnson of Longview, Peggy (Mike) Alston of Louisville, Ky., and Penny (Darwin) Weathers of Central Point, Ore .; Brother-in-law Lee (Darlene) Nutter of Jacksonville, Fla, sisters-in-law Joan Barry of Longview, Cheryl (David) Nelson of Puget Island, and Merilee (Bill) Irving of Sedro Wooley, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A Funeral will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Cathlamet. Visitation will be held Friday from 4-6 p.m. at Dowling Funeral Home. Burial will take place at Fernhill Cemetery in Skamokawa.

Dowling Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
