What's Happening at the Fair? November 24, 2011

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board would like to say thank you to the many bingo players that attended Turkey Bingo last Friday night. Every game of bingo played was suspenseful and exciting. The winning card holder would receive a turkey or a ham for their bingo. Sometimes there would be two bingos at the same time. Mike Backman, our number caller, would have to do a bingo run off to determine the winner. Now that’s intense bingo! I suspect there will be some delicious Thanksgiving dinners in Wahkiakum County cooked this week by many of our lucky bingo players!

We had a mountain of raffle prizes donated to this event from friends and businesses to give away. Special thanks to Kay Cochran & Lower Columbia Realty, The Bank of the Pacific, Janet Bryan, Arvid and Barbara Blix, Cathlamet Pharmacy, Jason Montgomery, Betty Goodell, Cathlamet Market, Watkins Tractors, Paula Quigley and Things with Bling, The River of Life Church, Mike Backman, the Lions Club, 4-H, Becky Ledtke and Heavy Stone Jewelry, Skamokawa Resort & Store, Cathlamet Video Store, PJ’s Pizza, Christine Bassi and Cathlamet Barber Shop, Janelle West and Sassy Chocolates, Kristen Souvenir and Hancock Forest Management, Cathlamet Chevron, Lynn’s Yogurt and Sandwich, Woods Logging, Athletes Corner, Mida’s, Sizzler Steak House, Arts Automotive, Kens Engraving, Star Rental, Les Schwab, Stuffy’s and O’Reilly's. To all who donated gift certificates and merchandise, your donations attract people to our fund raising events and make them successful. I encourage everyone to shop at these fine businesses that support Fair Board fund raising events so generously!

Ross Badger bought the lucky raffle ticket of the event and took home our grand prize, a 42” flat screen color TV. Congratulations, Ross!

If you enjoyed our Turkey Bingo event be sure to bring your family and friends to our Easter Bingo event in April! All proceeds from Wahkiakum County Fair Board fund raising events will be used to maintain, improve and operate your 2012 Wahkiakum County Fair.

Have you driven past the Fairgrounds at night lately? If not, drive over by the Skamokawa Grange and take a look at some beautiful Christmas lights and yard decorations. I hear there will be a Christmas tree going up too! Ed, Barb and Georgie heard there will be a Free Christmas Holiday Dinner at the Skamokawa Grange and that Santa might show up. They decided to help attract people and Santa to the dinner by doing some outdoor decorating at the Fairgrounds. Decorating for Christmas is something we all enjoy and when Mike Linn saw the array of lights going up, he decided to use his welding skills to create stars we can attach lights to. These will add to the beauty of this Christmas light show. All we need is snow, which may arrive soon. Hope to see you at the Skamokawa Grange on December 10 from 6-8 p.m. , where you can enjoy the Fairgrounds Christmas lights and a delicious dinner too!

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 360-560-0371 or 795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is December 14, 7 p.m., River Street Building Meeting Room in Cathlamet. The public is always welcome to attend.
