Sheriff's Report - November 17, 2011

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

November 7--5:40 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale resident with asthma. 8:53 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported a sex offender from out of the area was living in a Cathlamet apartment; an officer made contact. 1 p.m. An officer investigated a report of vandalism at Wahkiakum High School.

November 8--7:44 a.m. A Westend resident reported hunters were trespassing; the Department and Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) was notified. 7:45 a.m. A caller reported someone had spray painted vulgarities on buildings at Erickson Park in Cathlamet; an officer investigated and some youths confesssed. 11:39 a.m. A man reported being harassed by his ex-wife. 3:51 p.m. A caller reported someone had stolen a skateboard left outside the Cathlamet library.

November 9--3:25 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman in childbirth. 7:16 p.m. A motorist reported a one-car accident was partially blocking the SR 4 bridge in Skamokawa, the Washington State Patrol was notified.

November 10--10:54 p.m. Pacific County's Sheriff's Office asked officers to watch for a man who fled a Naselle cafe when he was surprised while committing a burglary; the man reportedly fled to the west of Naselle. 11:44 a.m. A caller reported juveniles were smoking in Cathlamet's Erickson Park; a deputy responded. 2:21 p.m. A Skamokawa resident reported a continuing problem with gas thefts; a deputy was advised. 7:14 p.m. A motorist reported being sideswiped by a truck as she came off the Puget Island bridge in Cathlamet; a deputy investigated.

November 11--12:01 p.m. Cowlitz County officers asked that Wahkiakum officers watch for a black Honda Accord that had just been stolen in Longview. 3:52 p.m. Cathlamet firefighters responded to a Beal Street residence which was filling with smoke; they found a chimney cap had become dislodged. 4:08 p.m. An officer responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Cathlamet residence. 6:43 p.m. East Birnie Slough Road residents reported hearing gunshots or small explosions; an officer investigated and learned that a man was firing a small cannon.

November 12--11:09 a.m. A Westend resident reported seeing a pickup with a dead deer, probably poached, in the back; WDFW was notified.

November 13--12:29 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island man who appeared to be unconscious in his car; at 12:33 a.m., the caller reported the man had gone into his house. 1:32 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Little Island resident having trouble breathing. 3:46 a.m. Pacific County relayed a report that a large slide was blocking Fossil Creek Road. 7:19 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman who was very ill. 10:17 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a man with back pain. 11:21 a.m. A Westend resident reported a bear was tearing up apple trees; WDFW was notified. 4:42 p.m. A Westend resident reported an upset man had trashed his house; an officer investigated. 6:02 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman needing transportation to a hospital. 7:41 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman with back and neck pain. 9:05 p.m. A motorist reported more sliding debris on Fossil Creek Road.
