Port 2 commission discusses water, planning

Commissioners of Port District No. 2 of Wahkiakum County discussed a variety of issues at their monthly meeting November 15.

Port Commissioners Kayrene Gilbertsen and Brian O'Connor said they wanted to attend the annual meeting of the Skamokawa Sewer and Water District to discuss billing issues.

To attend the meeting, the commissioners rescheduled their December meeting to December 13, 5 p.m., in the port office.

The commissioners also said they want to review a proposed agreement with the Westside Water System to manage the connection that links the port's water system with that of Westside. The intertie would be used only in emergencies.

Bill Chamberlain, the manager of the port's water system, said he also wanted to review the agreement with Port Attorney Jennifer Hanigan.

O'Connor said he had discussed possible consultation with the Columbia River Estuary Study Taskforce (CREST) to update the port's comprehensive plan.

Commissioners said they want to hold some public meetings in early 2012 to gather comments from the public about possible port district activities. That date could later be incorporated in an updated plan.
