Scott, Swart, McNicholas lead in voting

Lori Scott, Dick Swart and Steven McNicholas were leaders in the initial count of votes in Tuesday's general election.

In voting for a seat on the board of commissioners for Port District No. 2, Scott unseated Carlton Appelo, who has held the position since the port district was formed in 1966. Scott led 322-268 in the initial tally.

In voting for seats on the Cathlamet Town Council, incumbent McNicholas led write-in candidate Dale Jacobson by a vote of 97-61.

Swart, a write-in candidate for Position 3 on the council, leads the race with Angi Pugh 105-49. Pugh had filed for election last spring but subsequently moved outside the city limits, making her ineligible to serve on the council, and Swart, a former councilmember and mayor, filed for the position.
