A 12-person jury found Kristy Marie Schroeder not guilty of a charge of possession of a stolen vehicle.
She was accused of having possession of a U-Haul truck stolen from an Albany, Ore., outlet between August 14 and September 1.
A deputy sheriff contacted the vehicle, which was reported stolen August 11, during the night of August 14, when it was parked outside the Rosburg Store. The deputy arrested the driver who was wanted on outstanding warrants. The defendant was the female passenger, and she remained with the vehicle. They said they were moving to a Salmon Creek address.
On September 1, a Hungry Hiway resident reported finding the vehicle up a logging road. An officer investigated and found that the vehicle license plate didn't match its identification number, which belonged to the stolen vehicle. Officers then went to Schroeder's residence and arrested her.
She told officers that her boyfriend had obtained the vehicle and that another friend had said he would return it after the boyfriend was arrested.
Jurors said the state didn't show that she "did knowingly possess a stolen motor vehicle," as the charge indicated.
