Jennie C. Pearson

Jennie Christina Pearson, 97, of Cathlamet passed away October 18, 2011.

She was born February 25, 1914 in Centerville to Kalle and Annalise (Lehto) Hoikka. Jennie was a lifelong resident of Rosburg and attended Seal River School. She married Elving on September 28, 1935 in Cathlamet; he preceded her in death in 1980. Jennie loved her social life and was active in her community; she was kind and loved to help everyone. Jennie enjoyed yard work, sewing, cooking baking, crocheting and embroidering. She was confirmed in the Seal River Apostolic Lutheran Church as a child. She attended Grays River Methodist Church and was a member of the Friendship Circle, The American Legion Auxiliary – Deep River and VASA for 73 years.

Her family will always remember her as strong willed and independent, she was proud of her Finnish heritage and had a great deal of “Sisu.”

Jennie is survived by daughter Judy (Al) Jones, daughter-in-law Bernice Pearson, nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son Donald Pearson in 2008, brothers Edwin, Victor, August, Waino, Albert, Henry and Calvin Hoikka and sisters Grace, Nina, Ellen and Helmie.

Memorial donations can be made in Jennie’s name to Grays River Methodist Church, 3634 SR4W, Grays River, WA 98621. Visitation will be held this coming Sunday from 12-3 p.m. at Grays River Methodist Church. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at 12 noon at Grays River Methodist Church with a Graveside Committal to follow at Seal River Cemetery.
