Stew luncheon & bazaar set for October 29

Beef stew, cheese bread, coffee, hot mulled cider and dessert will be bringing people from miles around to the Grays River Methodist Church social hall on October 29.

The Grays River Friendship Circle’s Stew Luncheon & Bazaar will also feature crafts, paintings, original clothing and home decorations, plus a second hand shop, and a bake sale from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Takeout meals will be available. The meal is by donation, and the crafts and baked goods, including breads, pies, cookies and candies, are reasonably priced.

Lefse bake sale brings goodies to Norse Hall

The Sons of Norway will hold their annual Hardanger Lefse Bake Sale on November 6 at the Norse Hall on Puget Island.

Lefse baking classes will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on November 3-5, with the sale taking place on November 6 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with vendors and a raffle for Scandinavian prizes; tickets for the raffle are on sale now.

Farm market celebrates acoustic guitar society

This Friday is the WAGS Appreciation Day at the Two Islands Farmers Market.

WAGS (Wahkiakum Acoustic Guitar Society) members will play on the Up Beet Stage at the market from 3-6:30 p.m., said market manager Rob Stockhouse. Market vendors will provide dinner for the members following the market.

The market is located 59 W. Birnie Slough Road on Puget Island.

Redmen Hall exhibits work from new artist

For the final exhibit of this year, Redmen Hall will introduce an artist new to this area.

Mike Cullom has retired to Puget Island after working in Tacoma and Longview. He is a photographer and woodcarver whose exhibit is titled "Revisions - a Second Look" with digitally enhanced views of his surroundings. He exhibited at the International Photography Exhibit at the Western Washington State Fair and in Tacoma, Astoria, and Longview and had photographs and woodcarvings at the Vista Park anniversary celebration this summer.

The woodcarvings show villages and individual buildings reminiscent of Victorian times and give the exhibit a start into the Holiday season. There will be a reception on October 29 from 2-4 p.m. to meet Cullom with a cookie social. The exhibit will run from October 29 to December 18.

The hall is located at 1390 S.R. 4 in Skamokawa and is open Thursday through Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. For questions call during business hours at (360) 795-3007.

Chocolate extravaganza

promises tasty treats

The Bank of Pacific in Cathlamet will be hosting The Charlotte House’s 13th Annual Chocolate Extravaganza on October 21 from 4:30 – 7 p.m.

The event will feature local bakers competing for the title of “Most Decadent Dessert.” This year a few of the entries include Mint Chocolate Truffles, Chocolate Thumbprint Cookies, Terrific Toffee and 16 other chocolate delights.

Also featured will be local entertainment including Kerrie McNally who will be debuting her own song accompanied by Andrew Emlen on the cello. The duo will play at 5:30 p.m.

To go boxes are available; call ahead to order. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children and seniors. To go boxes are $10. Tickets can be purchased in advance at St. James Family Center or at the door.

All proceeds will benefit The Charlotte House Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Programs.

Get costumes ready for Neewollah Daze

Kids of all ages are being asked to get their scary, beautiful, funny, original costumes ready for the annual Neewollah Daze celebration.

This year’s celebration will be held at Bank of the Pacific on October 31 with judging to begin at 4 p.m.

There will be several categories with a prize bag filled with prizes for each participant. Cookies and punch will be served. This event is sponsored by the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce. Community garden plans open house, plant sale

Wahkiakum Community Garden will have an open house and plant sale on October 29 at Erickson Park.

From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., WSU Master Gardeners and garden volunteers will be available to answer gardening questions and give tours of the community garden. A variety of perennial plants will be available for purchase. All proceeds benefit the community garden.

Walk 'N' Knock food drive November 19

The Wahkiakum Lions Club and the Boy Scouts will hold a Walk 'N' Knock food drive to benefit the Wahkiakum Food Bank. The event is being held earlier this year because of a greater need of the food bank's services.

Volunteers will go from house to house in the local area on November 19 to collect donations of food. For those wishing to make cash donations, checks should be made out to Wahkiakum Food Bank.

New massage business

opens doors this Saturday

Nicole Emery, LMP, who graduated with honors from Everest College in Massage Therapy and Spa will celebrate the opening of her new business, Healing Matter with a ribbon cutting and open house this Saturday. Emery believes massage can be a beneficial and often necessary tool for stress management through relaxation.

Located at 94 Main Street, Cathlamet, the open house will run from 1-3 p.m., with the ribbon cutting at 1:30 p.m. along with light refreshments and a drawing for free massage.
