Wahkiakum results
Wahkiakum Coach Marie Riley filed this report: Last week's Ilwaco meet found us with a smaller than normal team. We had kids out of town and others not feeling so well. The weather didn't exactly cooperate, either, and most of the kids would have been happy to just not run that day. It had been raining and the trails were less than optimum; very muddy and slippery. Kids' times are continuing to fall and you know that they are out there working hard. In the high school race Collan Riley placed 15th in 20:20; Luke Stacey, 40th in 23:36, and Jr. Ramirez 49th with a time of 25:48. In the middle school race, Rory Heywood was finding some sore joints and muscles but still placed second with a respectable time of 11:55. Shona Heywood and Mya Kirzy were right behind her at 12:08.

Wahkiakum results
We were at Millersylvania Park for the NWC Bill Kehoe Invitational where there were 11 teams participating. NWC always puts on a high caliber race. Teams want to participate because of the competition. This was the first, and last, meet we were able to compete as a five member team, with each person setting a personal best time for the season, thus far.
We placed seventh out of eight teams, which the guys were excited about, since it was our first team outing. Again, there had been rain up to the day of our race, however race day was without precipitation; much to the delight of the runners. However, it did mean that there was a huge mud pit to maneuver, and runners reported sinking at least three to four inches. Good thing laces were cinched tight before the race started! Collan Riley crossed the finish line in 19:19, placing 24th out of 74 runners. Connar Riley was 28th in 19:37; our middle man, Adam Vasion had a great first showing placing 48th with a time of 21:21. Luke Stacey, who ran his last race with us due to family commitments, finished in 54th place with a time of 22:15. And Jr. Ramirez placed 64th in 23:12.
Because of the high number of middle school participants, the boys and girls ran separate races. There were 54 girls in the middle school race. Rory Heywood was feeling much better and placed 13th with a time of 11:17. Mya Kirzy was right behind her, literally, in 14th place, crossing the line in 11:24. Shona Heywood finished out our girls in 21st place with a time of 11:54.
It's too bad we are this close to the end of the season, because the way that everyone is going the times would really be going down and they might be blowing all the competition away! It is exciting to see the improvement the kids make over the season, but it all ends way too soon.
