Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:
October 3--6:04 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Middle Valley residence to aid a child whose hand had been injured by a closing door. 7:17 p.m. A caller reported someone had dumped old cement posts on someone else's private property near Cathlamet.
October 4--1:53 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Rosedale woman who was very weak. 8:54 a.m. A caller reported someone had stolen a washer and dryer from a rental residence in the Elochoman Valley. 1:10 p.m. A caller reported being threatened by a contractor; a deputy made contact. 3:04 p.m. A driver was stopped by an officer on SR 4 near Cathlamet was taken into custody for a Clark County warrant.
October 5--8:57 a.m. A caller reported that a power line transformer was sparking along the highway east of Cathlamet and power was out in the area; Wahkiakum PUD was notified. 4:27 p.m. A motorist reported encountering an unattended three-year-old child playing on Columbia Street; the driver and another person took the child to the child's residence; but found no adult around; an officer investigated. 5:59 p.m. A Grays River resident reported that a man had knocked on her door at 5 a.m. on October 1; a deputy made contact. 11:30 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported a person driving a dark extended cab pickup up and down the Elochoman Mainline was either poaching or prowling.
October 6--1:23 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a young child who had jabbed his throat with a spoon while jumping onto a couch. 3:09 p.m. A motorist reported almost running off a street in Cathlamet when an unleashed dog ran at his car.
October 7--8:34 a.m. Officers and two Cathlamet ambulances responded to the Elochoman Valley where a car had run into the back end of a logging truck. 4:41 p.m. A caller reported that someone had stolen property from two students at Wahkiakum High School; a deputy was assigned to investigate. 10:28 p.m. A motorist reported a car had struck and injured a young elk on SR 4 just east of Cathlamet; the elk was injured but alive, and the vehicle was disabled; officers were advised.
October 8--11:37 a.m. A West Valley resident reported an attempted fraud over the telephone. 11:27 p.m. A caller reported a man was threatening suicide; officers and a mental health professional responded.
October 9--2:29 a.m. A motorist reported a debris fire on land along Nelson Creek Road was still burning.
