Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Florence Eleanor Dumas passed away on October 4, 2011 at her home in Olympia. She was 75 years old. She was born on November 5, 1935 in her family home on Puget Island, Washington. She was the youngest daughter of Trygve and Hulda Tover. She married Don Miles in 1954. They had four children together. In 1964 Mom married Harlan Hendrickson and together they raised 5 children: Kathryn, Donald, Brad, Michael, and Ted. Harlan’s children, Chuck, Shari and Scott, were also part of our family, spending week-ends and holidays with us on our small farm, where we enjoyed many childhood adventures together. Mom loved to cook, decorate and plan parties, and we all remember the great meals she prepared for us.
When Harlan passed away in 1984, Mom sold the farm and moved to Seattle. She married Stan Dumas in 1985. Together they traveled throughout Europe and Southeast Asia. Visiting the birthplace of her father on Tover Island in Norway was an unforgettable experience for her. Mom became a world traveler, and she loved every minute of it. She enjoyed her life with Stan in Ballard until he passed away in 1997.
Mom moved to Olympia in 1998. She loved her new home and garden. She was most proud of her children and grandchildren. Her life passions included art, dancing, cooking, decorating, crossword puzzles, reading, and watching sports, especially Mariner and Seahawk games. Her paintings and drawings adorn the walls of many homes. She is survived by 5 children, 4 step-children, 11 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
