Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Cathlamet's Main Street merchants are forming an association to promote their businesses and make Main Street a more cheerful place to visit and shop.
A group of 10 persons met Friday to begin the effort.
Janelle West, proprietor of Sassy Chocolates and one of the persons organizing the group, said she wants to reach out to local residents who pass by Main Street. She also wants to encourage businesses to spruce up their stores and make an emphasis to provide friendly customer service.
The group agreed to have special events in their stores on days like Neewollah Day and the Holiday Lighting Festival which are coming October 31 and November 26. They'll distribute a sheet of coupon special offers for the events.
The merchants, most of whom belong to the Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce, will decorate for Halloween and have treats on Neewollah Day, when the Chamber hosts a costume contest. Most stores will have other special offers and treats for visitors.
