Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

What's happening at the Fair?

If you grew up in Wahkiakum County you already know there are lots of elk and deer that live in the mountains and valleys that surround Skamokawa. Hunters, if you need a place to camp, our park is 20 minutes away from South Fork Ridge, where you will probably be hunting. We have camp sites available at the Fairgrounds Park with rest room facilities and a shower. Your camping fees will be used to operate and fund the 2012 Wahkiakum County Fair. Give me a call if you need a campsite.

Did you cash your fair check yet? Don’t forget! Fair checks have to be cashed before the end of October. I will keep reminding you each week! If you haven’t received your check yet, give me a call.

The fair highway banner and the big Wahkiakum County Fair sign that weighs 300 pounds were taken down and stored in the T-building thanks to our local PUD crew. The wooden sign needs a little painting done to it before next year. This would be a fun project for a local artist, hopefully someone with a lot of bright colors of outdoor paint will give me a call and offer to do this project. Thanks again to the PUD for volunteering to put up and take down these two big signs that advertise our fair!

A few weeks ago I asked our community if anyone could donate horseshoe sets they no longer used to the fair. We need them for the fair time contest and it’s also nice to loan them to the families that lease the Fairgrounds park. We received a donation of a horse shoe set from Jim and Kim Jesperson this week! Thank you, we will put them to good use. If anyone else has a set to donate, please call.

Want to help sponsor next years fair? Donate your fair premium check back to the fair. Send your check to: Wahkiakum County Fair, P.O. Box 1, Skamokawa, WA 98647. Thank you Terri Satterlund, Bruce Satterlund, Kitty Speranza, Kim Sharp and Joyce Orr for donating your fair premium checks back to the fair!

To plan a successful fair, the manager has to find interesting types of entertainment that our community will enjoy. What would you like to have at the fair for entertainment next year? A rock-n-roll band, more animal shows, square dancers, karaoke contests. Let me know and I will try to find it.

The fair office is open by appointment only. If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 360-560-0371 or 795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting is October 12, 7 p.m., at the River Street meeting room. The public is always welcome to attend.
