The Morton/White Pass Timberwolves handed the Wahkiakum Mules a 12-0 loss late Friday in Central League football.
The Timberwolves took a 6-0 lead at 9:07 of the second quarter. Quarterback Rylon Kolb scored on a short run from less than a yard out. The Mules blocked the extra point conversion.
The visitors controlled the ball most of the second half but managed only two field goals. Darrell Park made kicks of 42 and 30 yards, one in the middle of the third quarter and one at the end of the period.
The Mules nearly put a touchdown on the board in the fourth quarter, but a receiver who had gotten behind the Timberwolf defense couldn't control Lars Blix's pass.
"Our defense kept us in the game," commented Mule Coach Eric Hansen. "They bent but didn't really break."
Kohl Bergseng had 12 tackles for the Mules; Brett Chaput made 11; Tylor Russell and Wyatt Parker each had nine, Blix eight, Bubba Calvert and Steven Doumit seven each, Travis Wegdahl and Nathan Cothren six each, and Eli McElroy five.
The Mules gained only 60 yards rushing. Bergseng had 39 and Parker 18.
The Mules head to Winlock this Friday to play the Cardinals who lost 34-0 to Mossyrock last Friday.
