The Adna Pirates showed they merit their high early season ranking as they tore apart the Wahkiakum Mules 39-14 in their first game on their new field last Friday.
The Pirates scored three first quarter touchdowns and piled up 158 rushing yards and 27 yards as they took a commanding 20-0 lead. They added nine points in the second quarter for a 29-0 halftime lead.
The Mules got rolling in the second half. Fullback Kohl Bergseng scored on a 13-yard run in the third quarter and an eight-yard run in the fourth. Quarterback Lars Blix kicked the conversions to complete the Mule scoring.
Adna tacked on a touchdown and 26-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Bergseng gained 120 yards for the Mules, who had 192 yards rushing and 45 yards passing on three completions. Wyatt Parker had 50 yards rushing, and Blix added 25. Bubba Lara gained 152 yards for the Pirates, who had 428 yards rushing.
Tanner Bergseng led the Mule defense with 22 tackles, including a quarterback sack. Kohl Bergseng, Tylor Russell (two sacks) and Dylan Hansen each had 12 tackles, and Blix, Brett Chaput (one sack) and Nathan Cothren each had 10 tackles.
The Mules host the Morton/White Pass Timberwolves this Friday at 7 p.m. The Timberwolves shut out the Mossyrock Vikings 32-0 in their season opener last week.
