Cathlamet resident Gregg Dashiell Hilton, 69, died August 1 after a courageous fight with multiple myeloma.
He was born February 3, 1942 to Herbert Shelton and Pauline (Brewer) Carpenter in Alton, Ill. His early boyhood years were spent in Vandalia and St. Louis, Mo. His family moved to Seattle in 1948 where he finished public school and attended college. After serving in the US Army Special Forces, he became a building contractor and formed Dolphin Marine and Construction. Upon retiring, he settled in Cathlamet where he met and married Cindy (Smetana) Hilton. He raised prize winning Brahmas and also made fashionable walking sticks. He also enjoyed collecting model trains, boats and cars, painting, sculpting and studying history, archaeology and political science.
He was preceded in death by both his father Herbert and mother Pauline and a brother, John Mohen. He is survived by his wife Cindy; daughter Melanie Haase of Astoria; sisters Jane Duchsherer of Covington and Billy McHulty of Woodinville; one granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews.
