Sheriff's Report - August 25, 2011

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

August 15--8:42 p.m. A caller reported a water line was broken on the docks at the Elochoman Slough Marina; marina staff were notified. 10:43 p.m. A caller reported a possible poacher was cruising Fossil Creek Road in a vehicle without lights; the state Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) was notified. 10:56 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island man possibly having a heart attack.

August 16--12:32 p.m. A caller reported finding a dead deer with its antlers removed near the old Weyerhaeuser Camp site up Fossil Creek Road; the WDFW was notified. 2:10 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance and Lifeflight helicopter responded to aid a Cathlamet woman with breathing difficulty. 4:42 p.m. A caller reported having purchased a puppy from a Wahkiakum County resident and learning from a vet that the animal had been abused; an officer and the Humane Society investigated.

August 17--8:25 a.m. A caller reported a truck with flat bed trailer had flipped 3.5 miles out East Valley Road; no one was injured; an officer responded. 10:27 a.m. A caller reported finding discarded syringes at a public fishing parking area up the Elochoman Valley. 12:22 p.m. A Fern Hill resident reported that a possibly stolen Jeep had been left parked in brush for the past month; an officer investigated. 1:49 p.m. A caller reported a possible theft by an in-home care giver; an officer investigated. 6:46 p.m. A motorist reported being passed by a beige car, forcing the caller and an oncoming car to swerve to the road shoulders on SR 4 near Milepost 40; the state patrol was advised.

August 18--12:34 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a possible sexual assault of a child; an officer investigated. 2:49 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a man needing a ring removed from a finger. 6:14 p.m. A Cathlamet resident said people partying in Erickson Park were making a disturbance. 7:39 p.m. A Fern Hill resident reported someone had stolen four bicycles; an officer investigated. 8:28 p.m. A woman reported her teenage sons were fighting; the fight was over when an officer responded; the officer explained what constituted domestic violence and what required mandatory arrest.

August 19--2:44 p.m. A caller reported a juvenile at the Skamokawa fair grounds had dangerous weapons. 3:46 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the Two Island Farm Market on Puget Island to aid two people injured by a driver who was backing up a vehicle; the injured sustained scrapes, cuts and bruises and one had back injuries. 10:16 p.m. A Cathlamet woman reported someone had made unauthorized charges on her credit card.

August 20--12:16 p.m. Residents of Loop and Fairview roads reported a water outage; Wahkiakum PUD was notified. 2:17 p.m. A caller reported a Puget Island resident wasn't caring for a dog. 2:55 p.m. A motorist reported having an altercation and threatening a man in a brown car. 4:15 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the fairgrounds to aid a person with breathing trouble. 5:22 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to the arena in the fairgrounds to aid a person with an unknown problem.

August 21--11:33 p.m. A motorist reported two red cars were speeding westbound on SR 4 at Milepost 30 at speeds of 120 mph; an officer stopped one of the vehicles and issued a citation. 6:46 p.m. A caller reported a man who appeared shaky and disoriented was sitting on the stairs by the Pioneer Community Center; an officer responded.
