Yacht club thanks Wahkiakum community

To The Eagle:

Thank you, Cathlamet, Wahkiakum County and Port District #1!

During Bald Eagle weekend, nearly 30 boats from the Portland Yacht Club (PYC) enjoyed the newly redone E dock and pavilion at the marina. Five of the classic "woodies" from PYC also participated in the Wooden Boat Show and we cheered as Don Peterson's tug "Hoot" was named Best of Show. Again this year, our members thoroughly enjoyed the parade, the food, the displays and the superb fireworks show but most of all we loved your hospitality.

We'll be in Cathlamet again August 16-17th as nearly 60 PYC members and more than 24 boats participate in our annual cruise on the lower Columbia River. Although it will be quieter than Bald Eagle weekend, we'll be delighted to be back in one of our favorite ports. Port District #1 has developed a first rate operation and harbor master Jackie Lea and the marina staff do an outstanding job. You can also be proud of your business community as they welcome and encourage our visits.

While many of our members reside in the Portland-Vancouver area, others come from other parts of our boating region, including Cathlamet. They, too, are community advocates and keep us posted on news from the area. We often hear "the boating community is important to towns like Cathlamet." While that's true, we also want you to know just how important this community is to Portland Yacht Club. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of your celebration and your community.
