Janet Cimino

Cathlamet resident, Janet Cimino, 67, passed away August 4, 2011 at Community Hospice. She was born June 29, 1944 in Chehalis, WA to G.R. and Mildred (Swanson) Kerstetter. Janet graduated from Wahkiakum High School in 1962, studied a year at Washington State University and received her teaching degree from Western Washington State University in Bellingham in 1968. That same year she married Noel “Scotty” Cimino; he preceded her in death in 1992. Janet returned to Cathlamet in 1996 from Bainbridge Island, and earlier lived in Port Angeles and Whatcom County.

Janet taught both art and bridge classes. She was an art enthusiast, and worked as an art framer for several years. She enjoyed playing bridge, trips to the casino, card creating and design, calligraphy, wildflower and environmental conservation. She was a member of Washington Native Plant Society. ACBL (American Contract Nature Conservancy), She was a board member for Wahkiakum Dollars For Scholars, Pioneer Community Association, Wahkiakum Community Foundation and a bridge league. She was a past member of Elochoman Grange and Wahkiakum Historical Society. Janet will be remembered for her great sense of humor and her zest for life.

Janet is survived by her brother, Robert Kerstetter (Janelle) of Cathlamet, her sisters, Linda Miller (Jim) of Palm Dessert, CA and Susie Patching (Chuck) of Woodland; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held August 9 at J.A. Wendt Elementary School. Burial was at Greenwood Cemetery.
