What's Happening at the Fair?

The Vista Park 30 year celebration was a success! It was a beautiful hot day and lots of people attended. I sold firewood raffle tickets, gave out fair books, exhibitor tags and forms. Thank-you for purchasing fair passes and baked goods from Ashley Hedges and Akaysha Stonebreaker our 2011 Fair Princesses at the celebration.

We have some great contests this year in the baking department. If you use Bob’s Red Mill Products, here’s your chance to win prize money and their products. Bring in your baking exhibit, a recipe card showing one of the ingredients used was a Bob’s Red Mill product and the label from the Bob’s Red Mill product you purchased. First prize is $25, second is $15 and third is $10. Along with the cash prize, the three winning exhibits will also receive a product card worth $25. The prizes are the same in Adult & Youth Open. Be sure to participate in this contest!

Red Star Yeast is giving packets of yeast to our Fair goers to encourage the use of their product. Some nice prizes for the baking exhibitors who use Red Star Yeast in their recipe will also be awarded to Youth and Adult exhibitors.

To win the Washington Wheat Award, bake bread, rolls or something using flour. First place receives a ribbon and a cookbook, second place receives a cookbook. This contest is for Youth and Adult exhibitors.

The Wilton Cake Decorating Contest is for the best cake decorations made using a bag and tip method. These are the type of decorations you would put on a wedding or a special day cake. You can even put icing on a piece of cardboard and put your decorating designs on it. Just the decorations are judged in this contest. The contest is for Youth and Adult exhibitors.

Fair Contests: The Grays River Grange spelling bee contest will be held on August 19 at 2:30. There will be two divisions, Grades 3rd through 5th and grades 6th through 8th. The winner in each division will receive $75, 2nd place will receive $50 and 3rd place will receive $25. If you would like to participate, call the Fair Office or stop by and sign up.

The horse shoe contest is at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The cost is $10 per person and the winner receives the prize money collected for the contest! Sign up at the Fair Office.

Saturday at 4 p.m., there will be a cribbage tournament. The cost is $5, a signup sheet is in the Fair Office. Mike Backman is in charge of the tournament and will have a nice prize for the final winner.

Entertainment Chairman Jerry Ledtke has done a great job finding a variety of music for our 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair. Jerry has scheduled Ted Vigil for the Saturday night entertainment, Ted will entertain you with his tribute to John Denver performance. Ted looks and sounds like John Denver, it’s an amazing show.

Watch for the Wahkiakum County Fair Poster around town, it has pictures of the bands, times they will be performing and events you don’t want to miss listed on it. Thank-you Lisa Mooers for creating a beautiful poster to advertise our Fair events!

Only two more weeks until Fair! Want to be a vendor at the Wahkiakum County Fair? It’s time to give me a call and secure your space! Please leave a message on the recorder.

The exhibitor tags have arrived, you can pick them up at the fair office Monday thru Friday 12:00 to 4:00. If you need to pick them up later in the evening, call and we can plan a time to meet.
