My apologies to everyone for the delayed reopening of the now combined Community Computer Center and the Grays River Valley Library. We had a few issues with the ethernet cables and computer hookups. We will be setting new, expanded hours for the computer center and library, and hopefully will be open next Thursday at 1 p.m. We hope you will check out the changes and continue to enjoy your Grays River Valley Center at Johnson Park. If you have questions, please call me at 465-2960.
Only one more week until the 14th Annual Potluck, Pig roast and Campout. The event will take place on August 5, 6 and 7. Poul and Zenaida Toftemark invite everyone to join them for a weekend of fun, food and games. The pig will be roasted and the potluck dinner will be ready at about 4 p.m. on Saturday. So, make your plans, and bring along your chairs, your preferred beverages, a potluck dish or two to share, your tent if you plan to camp, life jackets if you plan to swim or row in the boat, and sunshine.
Echo Meadow is located at 4491 SR 4 West in Rosburg, between mile post 13 and 14 on the south side of the highway.
Senior lunches are served three days a week at the Rosburg Hall. Tuesdays and Thursdays the lunches are sponsored by CAP and are served by a volunteer group.
On Wednesdays, Pat Potter of Grays River and her volunteers also serve nutritious meals to our local seniors. These two venues are a great way for seniors to eat a great meal and enjoy the advantage of an outing while visiting with friends and neighbors.
Happy Birthday wishes go out to the following celebrants this coming week: Chris Cary, Pat Nelson, Miriam Galbraith, Gene Strong, Diane Mattson, Shirley Herrold, Kyryn Jacot, Corina Lee, Brendan Wallace, Bryon Adair, Alissa Dorman, Jennifer Boggs, Katie Olson, Anita Adair, Karen Jansma, Eric Smalley, Inez Wirkkala, Annie Strange, Jeff Ammer, Joni Matthews, Makayla Matthews, and Scott Smith. Enjoy your special day.
Couples celebrating their anniversary this week include Quinn and Amber Donlon, Alan and Diane Bennett and Marshall and Denise Blanchard. Wishing you many more.
Marilyn Gudmundsen has celebrated a milestone birthday with her whole family this past weekend in Leavenworth. The celebration included a family reunion and barbecue. She was joined for the event by her brother, Mark Forster and his wife, Mary from west Seattle, her three sons, Eric and his family from Puyallup, Jon and his family from Grays River and her middle son, Tor who traveled from Guam for a week long visit.
Tor has also caught up with some local school buddies, Doug Wakefield and Mark Swanson, while visiting his Mom. He even got in a bit of fishing. When he leaves here he will visit with other friends in the San Francisco area before returning to Guam at the end of the month.
Marilyn, I hope you had a wonderful celebration with everyone, and I wish you many more. You are a very special friend. If it weren’t for you, I probably wouldn’t be the one writing about you in this column. Happy belated birthday, dear lady.
I want to wish our good friends Poul and Zenaida a very happy anniversary and tell them thank you for always sharing their happiness and good will with everyone by opening their hearts and their home with their annual pig roast and camp out. The two of you are an inspiration to many, for your generosity and community spirit. Happy Anniversary.
We enjoyed a wonderful working weekend with our youngest son Carl and our daughter Danielle and her husband Kevin. We now have a house that looks like a real house, at least from the outside. With cooperation from Mother Nature, we actually got everything primed and painted except the trim and that we can do a little at a time. It’s amazing the difference. Thank you kids for all your help and hard work.
Carl will be here for a couple more weeks to give us a hand on some of the other works in progress. He has been a godsend with some of the work. We might even get him to do some woodcutting and stacking. Thanks, Carl.
Get well wishes go out to our grandson Trevor in Redmond, Ore. He woke up with stomach pain early Monday morning and after a few hours decided it was more than just a simple stomach problem. Our daughter took him in to see their regular doctor and she immediately sent him to the hospital where they scheduled him for an emergency appendectomy within the hour. Fortunately, the appendix didn’t rupture, and he will be his normal self in a couple of days. We love you, Trev.
