Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
To The Eagle:
Last week's Eagle contained an obituary for Ken Terhaar which listed his extensive community involvement in the Longview area, but what was not included was the role he played in Wahkiakum County. I would like to make sure that local residents realize this and how important it was.
For a number of years, Ken served on the board of the United Way of Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties. In that capacity he was appointed to serve as the liaison between that organization and St. James Family Center, which has long been supported by it.
Ken faithfully attended our monthly board meetings and was a wonderful addition. His warmth, humor and wise counsel added a great deal to each one. He would listen to everyone and only after that would he speak up with carefully considered advice based on years of experience. When he did speak, it was always of value.
To show his support, he often attended events held at the Family Center. His concern for the well being of families in our counties was expressed in his many well thought out suggestions.
After he had left that official position, some of us contacted him when we had a particularly confusing problem. As always, he was there with wisdom and patience to help us work it through. His support for and advocacy for the Family Center continued.
Ken will always be remembered with affection and gratitude, a friend to this county, the Family Center and each of us privileged to serve on the board with him.
