Sheriff's Report - July 14, 2011

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

July 4--3:51 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid an East Sunny Sands resident who was unconscious. 9:20 a.m. A caller reported a pit bull loose and roaming the Salmon Creek bridge area. A deputy made contact. 6:26 p.m. A Deep River Road resident reported gunshots and a bullet that hit the caller's residence. An officer investigated.

July 5-- 2:04 a.m. A report of a decomposing deer by the side of SR4 was received. State patrol was notified. 3:14 a.m. A caller reported basketball size rocks in the west bound lane of SR 4 at milepost 42. 1:02 p.m. A Cathlamet business reported a theft of services that had occurred over the weekend. 4:31 p.m. An underground power outage was reported in the Oneida Road area. PUD crews made repairs. 6:39 p.m. A black bear was spotted crossing SR 4. The Department of Fish and Wildlife was notified.

July 6--4:57 a.m. A Rosburg business reported a possible transient asleep on the business property. 8:21 a.m. A caller reported that a chip truck had lost most of its load on East Birnie Slough Rd. 2:19 p.m. A caller reported hitting a deer in Skamokawa and that a fawn was loose. DFW was notified.

July 7--8:55 a.m. The Grays River fire department responded to an electrical fire. 9:39 a.m. A caller reported loose cows near the Puget Island ferry landing. The cows' owner was notified. 10:39 a.m. District 4 firemen responded to a fuel spill at a Cathlamet business. 10:40 p.m. A Fairview Road resident reported someone was setting off fireworks. A deputy was advised.

July 8--7:41 p.m. A caller reported a car over the embankment on Fossil Creek Road. No one was around when a deputy arrived and the car appeared to be on private property. 8:31 a.m. A South Welcome Slough Road resident reported someone using a burn barrel to burn plastics. The fire chief contacted a deputy to check the burn's legality. 11:14 a.m. A caller once again reported the use of a burn barrel on South Welcome Slough. 5:03 p.m. A caller reported the violation of a domestic violence protection order. A deputy responded and made an arrest. 5:10 p.m. A report was received of four underage children riding motorcycles in the Glen Gate Road area. 6:56 p.m. A deputy was requested to aid in the citation of trespassers at Brookfield.

July 9--7:34 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle needed to be towed from Hornstra's Beach. A tow company was contacted to remove the vehicle before it became a hazard. 9:42 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a woman with severe pain. 10:51 a.m. The Grays River ambulance responded to aid an elderly man who had fallen. 1:55 p.m. A Loop Road resident reported that one of his cows had been shot and killed. A deputy responded. 6:09 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to help a man who was experiencing chest pain. 10:05 p.m. A caller reported a woods crew had blocked in subjects suspected of theft.

July 10--6:48 p.m. A report was received of a vehicle driving erratically on SR 4. State patrol was notified. 11:17 p.m. A caller reported a child had returned home from a custodial visit with a parent with physical injuries. A deputy was advised.
