Land owners warn county on slide

A homeowners' association is asking Wahkiakum County officials to join them in pressuring a developer into addressing an erosion issue along SR 4 near Nassa Point.

Patrick Anderson and Van Wilkinson of the Maple Ridge Homeowners Association said that group is having other problems with developer Lynn Barnett, and they feel the county could have some liability in the problem.

The Maple Ridge access road is just west of the Nassa Point Motel. Barnett has graded a lot to the west of the road, and there was erosion of mud and rocks that went on the access road and onto SR 4 last winter.

The association began notifying the county last year, and this spring, Building and Planning Department Supervisor Chuck Beyer notified Barnett that the permit application for his project needed more information, and a condition would be that Barnett take care of the problem.

Wilkinson and Anderson said they wanted to see county action on the matter.

Beyer reported that he and Barnett differed on how long conditions could be enforced.

"I asked our attorney for an interpretation," he said. "I'm still requiring Lynn Barnett to follow thorugh with the conditions."

Commissioner Lisa Marsyla said the commission would talk to the prosecuting attorney and see what could be done to move forward.
