Merle W. Davies

Merle W. Davies, 88, of Longview, WA passed away June 16, 2011 at Community Hospice. He was born March 1, 1923 in Saguache, CO to James and Evelyn E. (Shippee) Davies. Merle recently moved to Longview from Rosburg, WA, where he lived since 1980; coming from Toutle, WA. He married his wife, Nellie on October 10, 1974; she preceded him in death on December 18, 2008.

Merle served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion, Carpenter’s Union and Ironworker’s Union. He worked with Ironworkers, building bridges. He enjoyed quilting, woodworking, carpentry and making cowboy shirts.

He is survived by his daughter, Ellen M. Nichols of Aberdeen, WA; a sister, Evelyn Davis of Wenatchee; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Nellie; he was preceded in death by his son, Curt Cotter; five brothers and two sisters.

A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made in Merle Davies’ name to Community Hospice, P.O. Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632 or VFW, 318 2nd St. NE, Long Beach, WA 98631. Dowling Funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
