Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891

Remodeled center opening as Skamokawa Resort

The former Skamokawa Town Center will reopen May 27 as the newly remodeled Skamokawa Resort.

“We want to make a place that people will enjoy, a place to stay, shop, kayak, and pick up their mail, or just sit on our new patio and watch the ships go by,” said Logan Britt, the new manager.

"We want to make a statement of ‘new and improved,'” said Arlene Jester, the new owner. "We not only want new people to come and see our resort but we also want the people that have stayed here before to come back and see what we have done. Our goal is to make the resort a place you can bring your family to, stay for your honeymoon, and bring your buddies to fish or kayak."

The facility features a complete grocery store and hotel, with a kayak guiding center in back. The resort crew has repaved the parking lot. The post office was relocated from the store area to a nearby building for more space.

"I'm really excited about having a store back. It's convenient for folks here, and kids really love the chance to go to the store and shop on their own," said Irene Martin, a long time resident of Skamokawa.

Port District 2 Commissioner Kayrene Gilbertsen agreed. “We are excited to not only have the store but more lodging and kayaking with access to Vista Park. A lot of our guests along with family and class reunion groups will use the resort when they stay at the Park."

Jester said that with the remodeling, the building has all new furniture, carpet, countertops, tile, TV, and paint in the rooms. The hotel and suites can easily sleep 34 people.

"We have remodeled the conference center, enlarged the general store and included a super large walk in cooler so our guests and customers can have a nice variety of goods when they are shopping for food, supplies or preparing meals for meetings,"Jester said.

The store's grand opening will be May 27, 3-6 p.m. There will be food, drawings and tours. Resort crew are constructing a website, http://www.SkamokawaResort.com.
