Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
This Saturday at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds in Skamokawa there will be a used book and rummage sale in the T-building from 10 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
The sale will have hundreds of books that have been donated by people and organizations in our community, including lots of good reading for adults, teens and children. Want some information about years past? We have three sets of encyclopedias. Each set is an education about past history. If you enjoy reading, don’t miss this sale!
At our rummage sale we have lots of good useable donated items from people in our community. We also received from James Harper three truck loads of great items to sell. His donation was the contents from his store in Cathlamet including books, small kitchen appliances, knick-knacks, chairs, four parachutes, car and truck items, eye protection goggles, speakers, a radio, Christmas items, glassware, decorative swords, office supplies, computer programs, games and lots of interesting gear. Thank you, James for your generous donation! We also received three boxes of new items for dogs from Ursula Petralia, including collars, leads, toys, dishes and leather chew toys. Thank you, Ursula!
I encourage everyone in our county to stop by the fairgrounds this Saturday and find a good book or rummage sale treasure to purchase. All proceeds from the sale will go to support the operation of the 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair.
The trim boards for the T-building windows were cut last weekend by volunteers Pat Conrad and Jerry Ledtke. To save money we always try to use the materials we have on hand to do our projects. We had a pile of one inch by one inch boards and Pat used his table saw to rip the boards in half. A time-consuming job when you need trim for 12 windows! Thank you Pat and Jerry, now we can finish trimming the windows!
Need to get out of the house? Have a little time to volunteer? We have lots of small and big projects to do to get ready for the 2011 Fair. We would welcome your help.
Do you need a place to sell your crafted, grown or rummage sale items a couple times a month? I am considering, after June 4, to have spaces available on the fairgrounds for a small fee. If interested in an indoor space or truck tailgate space call the fairgrounds office and leave a message. At this time I am trying to find out if there is enough interest to set up this type of weekend event.
If you need to gain access to the fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 560-0371 or you can call the fairgrounds office at 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.
The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting will be on May 11 in the T-building at the fairgrounds. The public is always welcome to attend.
