Entry deadlines near for derby, rods run

Entry deadlines are nearing for the 11th Annual Dollars for Scholars Sturgeon Derby and sixth Annual Rods and Reels rod run, which will occur on June 4.

Registration forms are due in by May 14 for the sturgeon derby and May 20 for the rod run. Entry forms can be turned in at Naselle Hardware, Cathlamet Chevron, or the Bank of the Pacific Cathlamet Branch. The entry forms can be downloaded by visiting http://www.wahkiakumchamber.com/sturgeonderby&bbq.htm.

Registration fees for the derby are $35 for adults and $15 for children 16 and under. Entries turned in by the due date will receive a free t-shirt, dinner ticket, and entry in drawings held the day of the event. People registering after May 14 will not receive a t-shirt.

Registration fees for the rod run are $25. The show is open to vehicles from 1911 to 2011. Entries made by May 20 will include a meal ticket, t-shirt, goodie bag, and dash plaque for participants who vote. Entries made on the day of the event will not include a t-shirt or goodie bag. Entry is free to vehicles owned by Wahkiakum and Naselle High School students. Registration will take place from eight to 11:30 on the morning of the event and over 60 trophies will be awarded at 3:30 p.m.

The sixth annual rods and reels rod run and salmon and chicken barbecue will occur at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds in Skamokawa during the derby. Admission to the rod run is free to spectators. The barbecue costs $8 for adults and $5 for children 16 and under. Visitors to the fairground on June 4 can enjoy raffles, a DJ, a trout pond for kids to fish, and a performance by the Naselle Marimba Band.
