What's Happening at the Fair?

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board's Easter Bingo was a successful fund raising event! By 6:30 p.m. the multi-purpose room at the grade school was filled with people ready to play bingo. The first number was called, the room turned quiet and all attention was focused on watching bingo cards. Each bingo game winner would take home a big delicious ham or two fresh frozen chickens! After 10 rounds of bingo, it was time for some raffle tickets to be drawn. The generous donations from our community were piled high on a table, raffle ticket numbers called out and I think everyone at the event won a prize from this table. Then it was back to bingo, not just regular bingo, we play six different types to make it more interesting!

The special raffle was an XBOX 360 with Kinect and a 4 GB bundle and was won by Kim Hedges. Congratulations, Kim!

The kitchen crew was kept busy all evening serving up goodies to the hungry bingo players. Fair supporter Helen Keyser baked some delicious pies and cupcakes to sell at our fund raising event, they disappeared fast! Thank you, Helen.

The event lasted until 9:30 p.m. and was attended and enjoyed by people of all ages. If you missed this bingo event, we’ll be planning another one for November called Turkey Bingo.

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board would like to say a big thank you to the many volunteers that helped set up and run the event and to the sponsors that donated generously to our Wahkiakum County Fair fund raising event. The sponsors of the event were Howie’s Corner & Coffee House, Sinful Sweets, Sassy Chocolates, The Video Store, Cathlamet Building Materials, Martha Backman, Heavy Stone Jewelry, Cathlamet Chevron, Cathlamet Market, Duck Inn, Bank of the Pacific, Cathlamet Barber Shop, the Sheriff's Office, Jeff Beerbower, Cheryl Backman, Ken’s Engraving Emporium Inc., Stanley's Sanitary Service, Wahkiakum Fair Foundation, Ostling Family, Bob's Sporting Goods, Cowlitz River Rigging, Ice Cream Yogurt & More, Austins & Thomas, Midas and Art’s Automotive. We try to write down all sponsors as we receive donations, if I have missed putting your name on the sponsor list above, please call.

Time to plan another used book and rummage sale! Jean Beerbower and I just received a donation of 20 boxes of books and a truck load of good rummage sale items.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board used book and rummage sale will be at the Fairgrounds in the T-Building on May 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. All proceeds from these sales will maintain and support your 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair!

Have a little time to volunteer? We have lots of projects to do to get ready for the 2011 Fair. We would welcome your help on the stage removal project listed below.

Fair Board President Neil Beerbower removed the metal roof off the old entertainment stage and will be working on dismantling the structure over the next weeks. We will be salvaging the old entertainment stage sign and all good materials for other projects on the fairgrounds, once the old stage is gone, up will go the new stage!

If you need to gain access to the Fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 560-0371 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting will be on May 11, in the T-building at the Fairgrounds in Skamokawa. The public is always welcome to attend.
