Preschool registration starts
St. James Family Center's preschool pre-registration for fall, 2011 opens April 28 for the community.
Parents may fill out a pre-registration form at the front desk of the family center.
Classes are on a first come, first served basis.

YAP program seeks teaching volunteers
The Summer Youth Adventure Program (YAP) is approaching and St. James Family Center is seeking volunteers to teach classes.
Those with special talents or hobbies such as arts and crafts, music, sports, gardening, dance or outdoor skills are being asked to spend a few afternoons teaching young people attending the youth activity program.

Pyle set for reading from re-released book
Friends of Skamokawa is celebrating the recent re-release of Robert M. Pyle's book The Thunder Tree with a short reading and book signing on May 1, at 1 p.m.
First published in 1993, The Thunder Tree shows how powerful the relationship between people--especially children--and nature can be.
This event will take place at Redmen Hall in Skamokawa, 1394 W. State Route 4.

Fishing pond open Saturday
The Faubion Fishing Pond at 314 Greenwood Road will be open this Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for kids 12 and under. All those fishing must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
NHS drama club presents Beauty and the Beast Jr.
The Naselle High School Drama club is producing another Broadway production with Disney's Beauty and the Beast Jr. with special permission from Music Theatre International.
Showtimes are 7 p.m. on May 6 and 7 and 7:30 p.m. on May 13 and 7 p.m. on May 14. Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $4 for students.
Volunteers sought for Bald Eagle festival
The Wahkiakum Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers with great energy and a positive personality to participate in putting on the 2011 Bald Eagle Days Festival and Wooden Boat Show.

A planning meeting will be held May 3, 5:30 p.m., in the Chamber office in the Hansen House Visitor Center at the intersection of Butler and Main streets.
27th White-tail run will be May 21
The 27th annual Great White Tail Run will be held May 21 at 10 a.m. on the Julia Butler Hansen National Wildlife Refuge. Participates will run or walk an out and back course for the 10K, 5k or 2 mile. There will be recognition awards given to the top overall female and male in each event along with ribbons for the top three finishers in age division. Registration and packet pickup will begin at 8:30 a.m. the day of the event at Vista Park where parking will be available.
Pre-registration deadlines are May 4th to guarantee a shirt and all mail-in entries need to be received by May 18. Fees are $10 without a shirt and $20 with a shirt. Day of run registration cost is $12 without a shirt and $25 with a shirt. A limited supply of shirts will be available for day of registering. A family or youth group discount is included with the first two entries of an immediate family/ group at regular price and each additional entry is $3 off. You may add $1 if you are bringing your dog and want to compete for awards in this division.
