Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
There are still slots available in AARP's Driver Safety Program being held in Cathlamet on April 27-28, sponsored by Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services. The eight hour program is being held at the River Street Meeting Room in Cathlamet from 9 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. each day. People of any age are welcome to attend; all participants must bring a valid drivers license.
A certificate will be issued to all participants upon completion. This certificate is recognized by most insurance companies for a discount on auto insurance for those 55 and over. Anyone who has not taken the course within two years should take it again to qualify for the discount.
Advance registration is required. Call Wahkiakum Health and Human Services at 795-8630 or 1-800-635-5989 from the Westend. Cost is $14 to cover class materials for AARP members, who must bring their membership number and $16 to non-members. Checks should be made out to AARP and mailed to Wahkiakum County Health and Human Services, 42 Elochoman Valley Road, Cathlamet, WA 98612. For further information, contact Mary Vik at Human Services or class instructor John Dolbey, 425-2586.
