Sheriff's Report - March 24-31 2011

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

March 14--4 p.m. Cathlamet schools reported a suspended student was back on school grounds; an officer made contact. 5:44 p.m. An Elochoman Valley resident reported that several youth were trespassing; an officer made contact and issued citations.

March 15--9:33 a.m. A caller reported a vehicle backed into another in Cathlamet; an officer checked, and there was no damage.

March 16--3:30 p.m. A case of child abuse was reported; Children's Protective Services (CPS) was notified. 6:08 p.m. A person reported that a magazine company was threatening to use her credit card to collect money that she didn't owe; an officer confirmed that the call was a scam. 8:49 p.m. A motorist reported that mud and a tree were slowly sliding onto the Altoona-Pillar Rock Road; the county road department was notified.

March 17--8:26 a.m. A Puget Island resident reported a teenage girl had run away; she was later found at school. 12:08 p.m. A case of child abuse was reported; CPS was notified. 7:34 p.m. Three people walking along Crossdike Road reported almost being hit by a speeding pickup.

March 18--11:40 a.m. A caller reported seeing a flock of sheep in a Puget Island pasture without any watering troughs; officers said they would monitor the situation. 1:52 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported a child had been walking around the neighborhood asking for money for an injured relative; the child was gone when an officer arrived. 4:39 p.m. A problem with a juvenile was reported at a Puget Island residence; an officer responded. 4:47 p.m. A man reported someone had stolen several items from his residence and that he was being harassed. 4:55 p.m. A Westend resident reported hearing lots of noise and gunshots fired at a residence whose owners were gone; an officer investigated and found that relatives were cleaning the property and having some target practice. 6:44 p.m. A caller reported someone was forging checks on a bank account; an officer investigated. 6:53 p.m. A caller reported a possible drunken driver near County Line Park; an officer stopped the vehicle and conducted field sobriety tests, which were negative; the driver was cited for no insurance and texting while driving. 7:17 p.m. A caller reported that people had been playing a strangulation game at school when one fell and had a blow on the head. 7:44 p.m. A caller reported that a person was depressed and suicidal; officers and a mental health professional responded.

March 19--7:59 a.m. A Puget Island resident said a person was violating a restraining order; the person was gone when an officer arrived. 9:24 a.m. An officer responding to a call from a Puget Island resident was assaulted by a suspect who fled the scene. 5:23 p.m. A person reported someone had keyed a car parked on Butler Street. 7:13 p.m. Officers arrested a person after stopping a car on SR 4 near Cathlamet. 8:13 p.m. Officers responded to a report of a domestic assault at a Puget Island residence; a suspect fled to Cowlitz County where officers there arrested him on assault charges. 10:36 p.m. Officers responded to a report that a Chevy pickup had overturned in the ditch at the SR 409/Welcome Slough Road intersection.

March 21--11:19 a.m. A caller said someone was taking everything out of an East Valley residence; an officer made contact. 3:02 p.m. Officers and the state patrol responded to a collision on Main Street; no one was injured.

March 23--4:31 a.m. A Westend resident reported a woman was threatening to kill herself; an officer wasn't available, and a family member decided to take the woman to an Astoria hospital. 11:35 a.m. A person reported leaving a jacket with medication in the pockets in a restroom at a Rosedale business, and the items were gone when the caller returned for them. 2:06 p.m. Wahkiakum School District reported someone had cut a fuel line on a school district vehicle in an attempt to steal fuel. 6:13 p.m. A caller said people were planning a sale of marijuana; an officer investigated.

March 24--7:23 a.m. A motorist reported a fallen tree was blocking Beaver Creek Road; the county road department was notified. 9:01 a.m. A caller reported seeing marijuana plants being raised in a shed; officers are investigating. 10:43 a.m. A caller reported a drug issue involving a child. 2:54 a.m. A Rosedale resident reported someone had stolen a ring. 6:45 p.m. A Puget Island landowner reported someone had moored a boat at the caller's dock without permission; a deputy investigated.

March 25--4:15 p.m. Cathlamet school personnel reported that a student running along South Third Street for a track workout was struck by a vehicle; an officer investigated; the student wasn't injured. 6:09 p.m. A motorist reported that a vehicle was disabled on SR near Deep River and the driver might be drunk; an officer investigated and found that a truck had been disabled, and a person wanting to help had pulled over and gotten stuck, and that the truck was gone.

March 26--1:07 p.m. A motorist reported a vehicle had rolled over on Salme Hill; the state patrol was notified.

March 27--4 p.m. A motorist reported a vehicle with flashing lights had been abandoned up the Elochoman Valley Road; it was gone when an officer arrived. 6:59 p.m. A caller reported a sport fishing guide with a boat on a trailer had parked the wrong way on Main Street and was blocking a crosswalk; the rig was gone when an officer arrived.
