What's Happening at the Fair?

After several great people were nominated, the votes were counted and the Fair Board chose to dedicate the 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair to Lois Wakefield! In the 2011 Fair Premium book there will be an article with background information detailing Lois’ involvement with our Fair.

Lois volunteers many hours each year organizing 4-H events and activities before and during our Fair. She transferred her enjoyment of 4-H Club activities to her children, and then to her grandchildren. Joni, her daughter, is a 4-H Horse Club leader and each year her grandchildren, Makayla and Makenzie, bring their 4-H horse projects to the Fair. The Fair Board wishes to honor Lois for her dedication to the youth in our community and her willingness to volunteer at the Wahkiakum County Fair each year! Congratulations, Lois!

Do you have some good books to donate to the fair board book sale? Give Jean a call at 849-0001 or call the Fairgrounds at 795-3480 and leave a message. We can arrange a time to collect your donated books or meet you at the Fairgrounds.

Only three weeks until Easter Bingo. Share this night of family fun with your friends and neighbors playing bingo and for just $1 a ticket you can enter our raffle drawing for some nice prizes too! See you April 22 at the J. A. Wendt Multi-purpose room at 6 p.m. All proceeds from this fund raiser will support and maintain your 2011 Wahkiakum County Fair!

Painting Party! On April 2 at the Fairgrounds, Horse Barn Superintendent Valerie Antijunti is organizing a painting party. At this time, three 4-H horse clubs and their leaders plan to attend. They will be painting the poster wall a light blue and red paint inside the horse stalls.

The Wahkiakum County Fair Board is searching for a special person to fill an open position on the board. What do our board members do? You will be helping to plan the 103rd Wahkiakum County Fair! Board members attend 12 meetings a year plus special committee meetings for projects. You will help plan and be a part of our fund raising events throughout the year also. If you would like to join this group of volunteers just give Neil a call @ 849-0001 or send an email to nbbeer@live.com.

Would you like to ride your favorite horse but it is too rainy and windy outside again? I have 2011 horse gate keys that can be purchased for $50. With this key you can use our big covered arena year round except for Fair time and scheduled events that will be posted in the arena.

If you need to gain access to the Fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 560-0371 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The Entertainment Stage Committee will meet at the Fairgrounds in Skamokawa on April 13 at 6 p.m. Don’t be late! This committee meeting will start an hour before we begin our regular Fair Board meeting at 7 p.m. in the T-building at the Fairgrounds. The public is always welcome to attend.
