Joyce Oris (Prestegard) Bowman, 75, of Westport, Oregon, journeyed to Heaven while surrounded by her loved ones in prayer on March 19, 2011, at the Community Home Health & Hospice Care Center in Longview, Washington. Joyce was born on Puget Island, WA., graduated from Clatskanie High School, married Roger B. Bowman at the Westport Community Church on December 19, 1953, and has been a resident of Westport, OR for over 60 years.
Joyce was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her love of life and others made people gravitate to her, in turn, she was referred to as “Mom” and “Grandma” by many people, and she always smiled when her great-grandson Jayden would refer to her as “Grandma Cheetos” since she always had a supply of them on hand for him. Joyce volunteered at Red Cross blood drives at the Wauna Mill and worked for a short time at the Bumble Bee Seafood Company in Astoria. She served on the Westport Volunteer Fire Department Board and the Wauna Water District Board.
She is survived by her husband Roger B. Bowman of Clatskanie, OR…Her two children Roger Craig Bowman and spouse Joyce A. of Richland, WA and Linda Diane Hanselman and spouse John of Westport, OR…Her grandchildren Brandon Filkowski and partner Jesica Stoddard and Kadi Filkowski all of Clatskanie, OR, Matthew Bowman of Kennewick, WA, Clint Bowman, Rachel Bowman, Randi Bowman, Sierra Bowman and Danielle Bowman of Richland, WA …Her great-grandchildren, Jayden Stoddard and Emory Filkowski of Clatskanie, OR, and Hayden Ristemi of Richland, WA…Her sister Alice Waddell and family of Astoria, OR.
Joyce was preceded in death by her granddaughter Kristina Diane Filkowski, her parents Sanger Omer and Ethel Prestegard, and sister Lucille Prestegard.
On Sunday April 3, 2011, family and friends are invited to attend the 2:00 p.m. Graveside Ceremony at the Westport Cemetery. Arrangements are being made by Groulx Mortuary of Clatskanie, OR. A “Celebration of Life” Reception will be hosted by the Westport Community Church Women’s Group immediately following the Graveside Ceremony in the Church Cafeteria, 49246 Highway 30, Westport, Oregon.
