What's Happening at the Fair?

The Wahkiakum County Fair is an event enjoyed each summer by our community.

Our Fair creates part time jobs each summer that are filled by local people from our community. Teenagers are hired during Fair time to keep the Fairgrounds looking trimmed up and clean.

Many organizations set up at our Fair for their major fund raising event of the year.

Our Fair plays a vital role in economic development for small businesses. For many businesses the Fair is an opportunity to show and sell their products to the community. The Fair is a great place to introduce new products and gather consumer response to the new products.

Our livestock market presents financial opportunities to our youth. They have the opportunity to sell their livestock projects to help provide funds for purchases they would like to make or pay future college costs.

The Fair is the show place for our livestock projects, crafts, gardening attempts and delicious baked goodies.

Our Fair provides revenue for restaurants, grocery stores, bed and breakfast Inns and other local businesses as people travel into our area to enjoy the Fair each summer.

The Wahkiakum County Fair brings our small town communities together. The Fair provides affordable entertainment that families can enjoy together with neighbors and friends.

I am asking our community once again to email Senator Brian Hatfield at brian.hatfield@leg.wa.gov , Representative Brian Blake at brian.blake@leg.wa.gov and Representative Dean Takko at dean.takko@leg.wa.gov . Ask them to keep the Fair funds in the biennial budget of 2011-2013. If we all send them an email, they will receive hundreds and they will know Wahkiakum County Citizens care about the Wahkiakum County Fair.

Fair Commissioner Blair Brady speaks in support of our Fair at the Capital each time he makes a trip up there. Blair makes sure the representatives know the Fair Board and volunteers work together to keep the Fair a great place to enjoy with friends and neighbors each summer.

We have a position to fill on the Wahkiakum County Fair Board, if interested please call Fair Board President Neil Beerbower at 849-0001 or email Neil at nbbeer@live.com. We have representation on the Fair Board for the Cathlamet, Skamokawa and Puget Island areas, we encourage someone from the Grays River/Rosburg area to give Neil a call or email. Our Fair theme this year is “Country Pride County Wide” let's get some representation from the west end of Wahkiakum County on the Fair Board!

Would you like to ride your favorite horse but it is too rainy and windy outside again? I have 2011 horse gate keys that can be purchased for $50.

If you need to gain access to the Fairgrounds contact Fair Manager Becky Ledtke at 560-0371 or you can call 1-360-795-3480 and leave a message.

The next Wahkiakum County Fair Board meeting will be on April 13 at 7 p.m. at the Wahkiakum County Fairgrounds in Skamokawa, at the T-building. The public is always welcome to attend.
