Established as The Skamokawa Eagle in 1891
Due to ongoing refurbishing of the Grays River Grange hall, the membership celebration scheduled for Saturday, April 30, is being postponed until May. Grangers reaching landmark years of membership from 25 to 75 years will be honored and receive commemorating pins at that time. We’re hoping that the hall will be done so we can show off the restoration!
Our hall was built in 1905 and is a survivor of the Pioneer Era. Restoring the Grange to its original splendor is taking many hours of hard work and dedication from the Grange members on the Building Committee - especially the work of Steve Puddicombe, Megan Agee, and Debbie Agee. There are now new stairs on both ends of the stage, the 1970’s era paneling has been removed exposing the original tongue and groove boards, and new wiring for the vintage lights is getting closer to completion. If anyone has old tongue and groove boards they don’t know what to do with and would like to donate to the Grange, we have found lots of repair work that needs to be done. Call 465-2268 and leave a message or email grange@wwest.net.
The Grange would like to show our support for folks along the Grays River where the weir put in by the state is located. Many locals wish to have the weir moved from the Ahlberg Park and Covered Bridge area. People come from all over the world to visit the Grays River Covered Bridge. The guest book at the park gives a record of how far people have traveled to visit. Unfortunately, they come to experience the historic and serene setting only to have a travel trailer parked next to the bridge dominating the scenery. Instead of listening to the natural sounds of the rippling water, they hear the noise of a running generator used to power the trailer. If the weir is needed, perhaps there is a better place that would be less intrusive? There has been contact with the state and our grange supports moving the weir operation away from the bridge and park.
Dinners before the meeting have been cancelled until the refurbish work in the upper eating area is complete. The business meeting time stays the same at 7:30 p.m.
