Sheriff's Report - March 10, 2011

Wahkiakum County law enforcement officers and emergency response personnel handled a variety of reports during the past week, including:

February 28--12:14 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman who was very ill. 9:43 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Puget Island woman who was incoherent. 12:17 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported it appeared someone had burglarized a house; an officer investigated. 6:03 p.m. A South Welcome Slough Road resident reported someone appeared to have poached a deer.

March 1--8:49 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet woman with abdominal pain. 12:18 p.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to aid a Cathlamet man with stroke like symptoms. 2:14 p.m. An East Birnie Slough Road resident reported being harassed. 3:10 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported an attempted burglary. 5:01 p.m. A caller reported smoke in the Crossdike Road area; an officer investigated and found a person burning a Christmas tree and brush. 6:13 p.m. An East Birnie Slough Road resident reported someone was burning illegal material; an officer investigated. 6:56 p.m. An East Birnie Slough Road resident reported a person was violating a restraining order; an officer said the order needed to be modified to include the caller.

March 2--8:58 a.m. The Cathlamet ambulance responded to a Cathlamet business to aid a man having breathing trouble. 12:34 p.m. A burglary was reported at the Johnson Park building. 2:42 p.m. A caller reported someone had shot a bald eagle; the call was relayed to the state Department of Fish and Wildlife.

March 3--3:13 a.m. A Cathlamet woman reported people kept shining lights into her house at night; an officer made contact. 7:21 a.m. A Rosburg resident reported someone was stealing metal at a residence; no one was there when an officer arrived. 9 a.m. A Cathlamet business reported someone had driven away without paying for gasoline. 3:26 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported vehicle drivers using a dirt road between Glengate and Douglas Street had been fast and reckless. 4:06 p.m. The Elochoman Slough Marina reported an attempt to defraud an innkeeper; an officer investigated.

March 4--7:45 a.m. Johnson Park staff reported a possible burglary. 10:53 p.m. A Rosedale resident reported someone had torn apart the inside of a house; a deputy investigated.

March 5--12:20 a.m. A caller reported a female talking on a cell phone had stolen a traffic cone from the elementary school in Cathlamet; a deputy made contact and recovered the cone. 12:06 p.m. A Cathlamet resident reported a child visiting people in Cathlamet didn't want to return home because of drug use in the home; a deputy made contact. 4:48 p.m. A caller reported nearly being hit while using a crosswalk in Cathlamet; the suspect vehicle was gone when an officer arrived. 5:51 p.m. A caller reported a boat appeared to have collided with the Puget Island bridge; officers investigated and found no boats with damage in the area. 6:51 p.m. A caller reported that Skamokawa residents were having a dispute about keys to a vehicle; an officer investigated. 7:16 p.m. The Grays River Fire Department responded to extinguish a chimney fire at a Wildflower Lane residence.

March 6--1:17 a.m. A caller reported two people were brawling on Main Street; officer responded and sorted out the situation. 12:14 p.m. A caller reported an assault on a child at a Cathlamet residence; an officer investigated. 6:08 p.m. A caller reported that a Maple Street resident had confronted a person over ownership of a bicycle; officers investigated and found it had been taken from a Rosedale home. 7 p.m. A caller reported a nine-year-old girl had been assaulted and bitten in the face by a black dog in the Raistakka Road area; family members transported the girl to a hospital, and an officer investigated. 10:55 p.m. Sheriff's department communications officers received a call from a man who sounded drunk and who wanted to know if he was wanted for arrest; the man came to the sheriff's office and taunted officers and left; when officers found him, he said he had taken a bunch of prescription pills; the Cathlamet ambulance responded to take him to a hospital.
