Winlock, Adna claim wins over Lady Mules

The Toutle Lake Ducks looked like state tournament material as they handed the Wahkiakum Lady Mules a 58-16 Central League loss on Monday.

The Ducks, ranked third in the Associated Press pole, rolled to a 16-0 first quarter lead as the Mules couldn't handled their man-to-man defense made lots of turnovers.

The Mules played their best play in the second quarter, scoring 12 points as the Duck coaches inserted reserves.

The Ducks turned up the intensity in the second half and controlled the play.

For the Mules, Brianne Helms, Ellee Crouse and Blaine Land all had four points. Shelby Felton and Eva-Mari Vik each scored two.

The Mules lost 59-35 last week to the fourth-ranked Napavine Tigers. Details were unavailable.

The Mules closed out the home season last night (Wednesday) against Morton/White pass and end regular season play Friday at Pe Ell.

As The Eagle went to press Wednesday, the Mules were in seventh place in the Central League; they would open district tournament competition next Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. in Castle Rock versus Central third place Adna.
